Woodland+Heron Park ‘Cross

Nice work to GNCC’s Craig Prather for capping off a nice weekend with a 2nd place at Woodland and 1st (despite being a bit hung over) at Heron Park.

Hats off to Matt Butterfield (Sportsman’s) for a great Woodland event and Steve Muller (Flathead cycling) for  a fantastic 9th annual Heron Park race, and to all who help keep the race running smooth!

Hot Cyclo-Cross Buns at Woodland Park Cross Race

YUMMY HOT CYCLO-CROSS BUNS! Back by popular demand by GNCC and Ceres Bakery.

Get to the Woodland Park Cross Race early on Saturday for some last minute carbo loading with coffee provided by THE DAILY HABIT!  If you can not get enough at the race, make ‘em at home, here’s how…..

INGREDIENTS

• 3/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
• 3 tablespoons butter
• 1 tablespoon instant powdered milk
• 1/4 cup white sugar
• 3/8 teaspoon salt
• 1 egg
• 1 egg white
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
• 3/4 cup dried currants
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1 egg yolk
• 2 tablespoons water
• 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 teaspoons milk

DIRECTIONS

1. Put warm water, butter, skim milk powder, 1/4 cup sugar, salt, egg, egg white, flour, and yeast in bread maker and start on dough program.
2. When 5 minutes of kneading are left, add currants and cinnamon. Leave in machine till double.
3. Punch down on floured surface, cover, and let rest 10 minutes.
4. Shape into 12 balls and place in a greased 9 x 12 inch pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place till double, about 35-40 minutes.
5. Mix egg yolk and 2 tablespoons water. Brush on balls.
6. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 20 minutes. Remove from pan immediately and cool on wire rack.
7. To make crosses: mix together confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, and milk. Brush an X on each cooled bun.

Kalispell ‘Cross Racing This Weekend

Another great weekend of cyclocross racing , as the show moves up to Kalispell for 2 days of racing.

On Saturday, the Sportsman team hosts the Woodland Cross race, and on Sunday, Flathead Cycling hosts the Herron Park race. Racing starts both days @ 10:30. Please see www.montanacycling. net for race flyers and more info.

Cyclocross racers love good coffee, so as you’re driving through Kalispell, please stop @ Colter Coffee. Located @ 424 Main St., about 2 blocks north of the courthouse(on west side of Main). Just mention CYCLOCROSS, and recieve 10% off you’re drinks during the weekend. It’s a great place to hang out before/after the races ,+free wi-fi.

The mission statement as posted on the team website was read.  All appeared to agree that this mission statement was well written revision did not appear to me to be necessary based on the reaction of those at the meeting.

General Discussion:

Who is the board?  From the discussion that ensued, a board member is any club member who cares to identify themselves as a board member and is willing to attend a monthly meeting  (the second Tuesday of every month) and is motivated to work to accomplish the clubs mission statement.  This may change if numbers are becoming too great.

We anticipate the board to grow.  If you are interested in becoming a board member come to the next board meeting.

Jason Schmitt volunteered to be the Web Update Person as this works well with his morning routine.  Coffee, BM, Run, Meditation, Web Update.

Urgent Needs Discussion:

Sponsorship and Fund Raising: This is a big area that needs immediate attention so the board decided to assign tasks for getting to work on this immediately.

• Nicholas Dumbroadskavich and Howard Williams will work together to create a document to present to potential sponsors, this document will be completed by the next board meeting
• Brenda Winkler will obtain all race result information from the team and compile the info for the Sponsorship Document.
• Craig will organize a team picture that will be included in the Sponsorship Document.
• Jason will stand by for instructions and try to put on some weight so he does not make the rest of us look obese.
• Ted will try to keep us on task and off of each others toes.

Board Meetings will be at 6pm the second Tuesday of the month at Great Northern Cycles, the next meeting is:
